Situation
- In August 2023, a series of wildfires broke out in the U.S. state of Hawaii, predominantly on the island of Maui. The wind-driven fires prompted evacuations, caused widespread damage in the town of Lahaina on Maui's northwest coast.
Challenge
- Need quiet nighttime power for WiFi and security cameras in community shelters and Maui County Fire Station
- Need reliable power for long-term shelters
- Fuel is expensive in Hawaii
Results
- PowerPac solar generators deployed for WiFi and security cameras for community group responder center supply hubs and long-term shelters.
- SunKit solar generator installed in the Maui County Fire Department Ocean Safety lifeguard shipping container office for long-term, daytime air conditioning and comms.
- Additional units are still being deployed to address long-term needs.
